health and safety

The Group is committed to maintaining high standards of health and safety management.

Ensuring safe working conditions for all employees, including those of contractors, and the provision of training and equipment to enable employees to carry out their work safely is a priority.

The Group ’s Health and Safety Policy Statement is subject to an annual review and signed by a Director with overall health and safety responsibility.

Employees are encouraged to participate in health and safety, including local safety committees. All employees are responsible for health and safety and are provided with suitable information, instruction and training tailored to their role within the organisation.

Scottish Coal is a member of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) and has achieved seven ROSPA Gold Awards for Occupational Health and Safety in the last eight years. The awards demonstrate that we are continually striving to improve our health and safety performance and the awards are a credit to everyone within the group.
